Bingo Brains

Bingo players now have evidence of what they already knew, bingo can sharpen your thinking skills – thus making you smarter than someone who doesn’t play.

A study has now been conducted that showed a clear difference between control groups that had played bingo and groups that had not. The ages of the players were from 18 through 82, and though the younger ones were a bit faster, the older ones were much more precise. The real difference between the ages was minimal.

Wondering how this works? Well, we have all heard the saying that women are much better multi-taskers. Whether or not that is true has yet to be proven. Yet in testing the bingo players vs. non-players, the bingo players were more skilled. And any bingo player, or anyone who knows a bingo player, being in a bingo hall or bingo chat room requires A LOT of multi-tasking. You have to scan all your cards while you are carrying on conversations, listening for new calls, and maybe getting yourself a drink. The mind learns to focus on several different sets of input at once, and gets better and better at doing so.

Perhaps this is why the average age of bingo players has steadily been lowering. More young men and women are seeing positive benefits to playing that go beyond the social aspects. Sure it is great fun to go with a few friends and play at the bingo hall. It is lovely to go online and chit chat with new friends in game rooms. Yet mind clarity seems to be a theme of bingo players as well.

Bingo may not tone your abs, or tighten your biceps, but it certainly gives your brain a workout. That is the best reason of all to go play some bingo right now.
